Sowing Seeds

Tune: St Bees

('Hark my soul, it is the Lord')

Psalm 126

********

When the Lord did turn again

The captivity, e'en then

We of Zion were like they

Who seemed in a dream that day

Then was our mouth, laughed di we

And our tongue it sang freely

The heathen they said, The Lord

Has done great things, true His word

Yes, the Lord great things has done

For us, we can compare none

To His acts, and we are glad

Gone now mourning, no more sad

Turn our captivity, Lord

As streams in south land assured

They that sow in tears shall reap

In joy, then no longer weep

They that go forth with weeping

Bearing precious seed shall bring

Their sheaves with them in reaping

Joyful to the Lord shall sing

  • Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 7.7.7.7. Possibly the people have been freed from one captivity (verses 1 to 3) and may now be in another one (verses 4 and 5) in the layout of this Psalm.
