The Shadow of Your Smil

rrodriguez

The shadow isn’t darkness;

it’s the soft imprint of your smile that remains,

lingering like light upon the water

long after the moment has passed.

Some smiles disappear from our sight,

but never from our hearts;

they leave behind a light

that even absence cannot extinguish.

My heart refuses to let it fade.

It remembers the warmth of your embraces,

a quiet tenderness that returns

whenever I look at your picture.

For what remains is not darkness,

but the tenderness of your memory,

a gentle echo within my heart

long after you are no longer here.

  • Comment from author about the poem: I wrote The Shadow of Your Smile as a personal reflection on the love and memories that remain when someone we cherish is no longer physically beside us. I wanted to capture that beautiful yet sometimes painful experience of remembering a smile, the warmth of an embrace, and the tenderness of shared moments. I believe that even when time and distance separate us, the people we love leave something of themselves within us. Their memories become a quiet light in our hearts, one that even absence cannot extinguish.
