That night we met,
the hug you gave, the words you said
how could I have known
your goodbye was our last?
I wish I had known,
perhaps I would have held you longer,
just a little longer,
before the world took you away.
We were once a pair,
though the world stood against us.
You found your piece elsewhere,
when tipsy, you found your way back to me.
I still remember that night
as if yesterday never ended.
Tell me, do you ever think of me
the way I still think of you?
Am I still somewhere in your poems,
the way you still live in mine?
Perhaps I have lost you,
but there is one thing time cannot do
as long as my poems are alive,
a part of me will never let you go.

A love poem of one lost but still held dear in memory. Nicely done
