“Crash Zone”

No river undulating without terminus,

but a coast that cannot keep its shape.

The sea arrives with ten thousand opinions,

each wave convinced it has discovered truth.

White-maned arguments rear from the dark,

smashing themselves upon the granite of the day.

The air is filled with the din of unfinished thoughts,

old grievances dragged ashore like wreckage,

desires shrieking with gull-throated hunger,

every horizon a fresh emergency.

Here, rests is pressed to be found

Even silence is broken into fragments,

ground and reground in the mill of the surf.

The spirit paces its narrow strand,

mistaking agitation for movement,

mistaking noise for aliveness.

And still the waves come,

armed with their froth,

their urgency,

their ceaseless declarations,

unable to imagine

that beyond the breakers there might exist

a depth

             so still

it foregoes a need to speak.

Aside from their poetic metaphors, lately your poems have become most philosophical. I love this approach where each line a thought followed by another somehow interlinked. A poem becomes an inward journey to those that wish to take it, not a reflection of the day but the mind that perceives it. Loved it my friend especially the line: "White-maned arguments rear from the dark" pregnant with meaning it also has opposing terms in White and dark. So many thoughts on this white coming from darkness as light emerging from the emptiness of space, whit skin evolved from dark (so they say) as from Africa we spread north. White truth (as we see it) dark ignorance (so we believe) and on it goes and this is just one line.

It could be more a phase than a season like the moon in but not quite as periodic. Thank you so much dear Soren. 🙏🏻🕊️

Rik, I particularly appreciated the distinction between being busy and actually getting somewhere. I've certainly wasted enough energy confusing the two! You've given me something to chew on today. 🌹🖤🙏🕯️🐦‍⬛
