"An Evening Prayer"
`

Away,
fly and float in the drifts.

       Go,
brandish the hilt and strike
against a cloudless sky.

          Back
in the shadows, whisper.

               Come
forward to hear better.

Leave
your shoes on; come
        Alone
is where yesterday hid
               Today.

  • Comment from author about the poem: Please watch the semantic paradox at work, if you are so disposed, (S2) and observe what it is doing, the syntax suggesting an action that is unachievable, almost futile. And think evened out rather than dusk or twilight or early night, although that is also implied. 🙏🏻🕊️

A quiet and calming poem yet action is implied. And what action how does one fly and float in drifts how does one brandish but a hilt and harder yet strike the sky ( I suppose if one is pedantic all about us is sky, anything above the ground). If one is in the shadows whispering it is for a hidden reason to come out of them is to be seen. Yet all this seems sleep oriented, flying in drifts, striking the sky dream like fantasies, to come out of the shadows but to come out of sleep where one hears reality better (possibly). Leaving one's shoes on is to but nap not sleep and as for yesterday hiding today that is in dreams. Yet there seems another meaning here in the very format the steplike single worded preceding lines. Away, go, back, come, leave, alone, today. The process of dreams and sleep that comes and goes today could be the awakening for one always awakens to today. It seems a poem within a poem a double helix so to speak one corresponding to another. Very creative and nice Cryptic
