Warning Spaces

Anthony Hanible

Mind the spaces

The places

Faceless

Nameless

Faithless

The traces

Chase us

Erase us

Replace us

A slit

A split

A tear in the air

Where the meanings quit

A gap

A snap

A map gone black

With no way back

The blank between

The seen and screen

The seam between

The mean and dream

Words may shine

Lines may lace

But danger lives

In borrowed space

The hush can crush

The calm can harm

The still can spill

A false alarm

A room

A gloom

A bloom of doom

Inside the loom

The white can bite

The light can blight

The open door

Can start a war

What isn't said

Still spreads

What isn't heard

Still stirs

What isn't there

Still scares

Warning spaces

Thin as lace

Deep as graves

Dark as caves

They creep

They seep

They keep what sleepers

Dare not keep

And when the sentence

Ends its races

Beware the ghosts

That live

In warning spaces

I love the slippery rhyme that pulls one along this narrow path (short lines). It creates its own rhythm that feels like a water slide slick and smooth all the way to the end. Very nice
