Velvet of promises

ELIORA

He whispered forever,
a vow pressed gently
into the velvet dark.

But silence bloomed,
like frost upon glass,
fragile, crystalline,
fracturing what was once whole.

Now absence lingers beside me,
a shadow draped in memory’s embrace.
Your voice drifts to another horizon,
while I remain —
waiting for time’s tender hands
to mend what love could not.

This is a sad poem of loss. Loss of a promise made that fell into silence. Silence can well be that lack of communication so common following a vow. The metaphor of blooming frost on glass is vivid. Cold is the frost just as silence is cold. I picture a window fractured from the cold now missing, an absence noticed just as a person in their silence seems absent. The taker in this poem is the last line:
    "waiting for time’s tender hands
to mend what love could not."
