The Day Before

Anthony Hanible

Clouds rolled in

Thin as skin

Cold as sin

Where to begin

Up went the kite

Out of sight

Into the night

Past the light

The wind blew hard

Across the yard

Without regard

Leaving scars

Up climbed hope

Down slipped rope

Hard to cope

When dreams don't float

A crow flew by

Across the sky

Without a cry

Asking why

The stars burned bright

Small and white

Holding tight

Through the night

One last chance

One last glance

One last dance

Before fate's hand

Morning waited

Quiet and still

While the world stood

On the hill
