A Spoken Word Poem of Strength, Survival, and Hope
I see a mountain standing tall,
Its peak so high, its shadows fall.
And here I stand, so far below,
With aching feet, but still I go.
The road is rough, the climb is steep,
I've lost so much, I've learned to weep.
But every scar and every tear,
Reminds me why I'm standing here.
Because I WILL NOT STOP!
I WILL NOT BREAK!
I've fought too hard for life's next day!
And though my legs may shake with fear,
I'll climb until the skies are clear!
I've walked through storms, I've faced the rain,
I've carried mountains made of pain.
I've screamed at skies that wouldn't hear,
And fought through every single fear.
Some days I crawl, some days I run,
Some days I barely face the sun.
But even when my strength feels small,
I STILL MOVE FORWARD THROUGH IT ALL!
Because I know how far I'd fall,
If I surrendered to it all.
And giving up? That's not my fate,
I've come too far, I've fought too great!
So I'll keep climbing, stone by stone,
Even when I feel alone.
With every breath, with every stride,
I'll find the strength I hold inside.
AND IF I STUMBLE, LET ME SHAKE!
BUT I WON'T LET MY SPIRIT BREAK!
A stumble doesn't mean defeat,
I'll rise again upon my feet!
I wasn't born with wings to fly,
But I was born to reach the sky.
And every time the darkness calls,
I'll build a staircase from my falls.
Because this mountain isn't death,
It's every dream I have left!
It's every hope I thought I'd lost,
It's every victory worth the cost!
And when the winds begin to roar,
I'll shout, "I'VE SURVIVED WORSE BEFORE!"
When thunder shakes the ground I tread,
I'll lift my weary, hopeful head.
I may be bruised, I may be scarred,
But nothing beautiful comes without heart.
And though the summit seems so far,
I'll keep on climbing toward the stars.
ONE MORE STEP!
ONE MORE DAY!
I WILL NOT THROW MY LIFE AWAY!
ONE MORE BREATH!
ONE MORE TRY!
I'M NOT DONE REACHING FOR THE SKY!
And when I finally reach that height,
I'll watch the sunrise paint the night.
I'll look below at where I've been,
And smile because I chose to win.
Not because I never cried,
Not because I never tried
To hide the hurt, escape the pain,
Or feared I'd never rise again.
But because through every storm I knew,
There was a life worth fighting through.
And every step, however small,
Was proof I hadn't lost it all.
So let the mountain touch the skies,
Let every challenge test my rise.
I'll rest when needed, then climb once more,
For there's a life worth fighting for.
I AM THE CLIMBER!
I AM THE FIGHT!
I AM THE DAWN AFTER THE NIGHT!
And if you ask me why I try,
When that mountain reaches the endless sky...
I'll tell you this, with tears that shine:
"THAT MOUNTAIN'S BIG...
BUT THIS LIFE IS MINE!"
And I will climb through wind and rain,
Through every doubt and every pain.
Until the world can hear me say...
"I DIDN'T GIVE UP.
I FOUND MY WAY."
And the mountain that once stood in my way...
Will be the place I watch the sunrise someday.
