Floor boards creaking in this one particular room
she always sits at the end of my bed
how do I know?
because the mattress suddenly drops inward
as if she jumps to sit on it
and her presence brings a sharp cold
a profound silence
I’m trying to quiet my breathing
afterall, maybe she doesn’t know I’m here?
I’m numb I cannot move
my eyes tightly closed
although I’m curious to see her
I’m terrified
who she is?
alas, my numbness is my savior
what if …
she’s my very own soul?
