Just enough of a father.

Insanely Hilarious

We talk so much of the loving fathers,

With love in their heart and glitter in this fingers,

We talk so much of the abusive bastards,

With venom in their tongues and incompetence.

But tonight, let's all gather to talk,

Let's discuss the fathers who're just enough.

Who're just enough to make us feel guilt,

But they couldn't be damned to enter the forts we built.

They know our names and smile when they see us,

But oh, trust me, truly they don't deserve us.

They never learnt to be selfless men,

They never emotionally aged past ten.

And I do not want to condemn them,

I'm sure they had their reasons,

But damn it, they had children,

It wasn't our job to teach them to perceive us.

When a man is just enough,

He fills a traitorous heart with hope.

Takes a child's wondrous kindness,

Hammers it with just enough pain.

And I'm not saying they don't love us,

In the labyrinths of their souls they do,

But dear god, was it fair to disappoint us,

Because they didn't know what a father needs to do?

And I try to be the bigger person,

To act like this doesn't kill me.

I look away when I see a father,

Lovingly hold his little daughter.

And a little bitterly, I do think,

Does that little girl know?

Her father is incapable of truly loving her?

Or does she already know?
