True happiness begins not in the crown of gold nor in the thunder of applause, but in the quiet opening of a hand that already knows how to hold. It begins when a stranger’s name becomes neighbor, when the weight of their day is lightened by your small, steady yes. When the tired parent is seen and the child is listened to as if their ordinary words were already scripture. It begins in the long table where spouses lean toward each other after the dishes are stacked, and the silence between them is no longer empty but full of shared respect that does not need to be announced. It begins in the steam of a pot passed across a language that neither of you fully owns. Rice, bread, stew— the same syllables of hunger and the same answer of fullness. Food that needs no translator because the body already understands what the mouth is still learning. It begins in the moment appreciation turns its face toward Thanksgiving— not the holiday alone, but the daily practice of naming what has been given before it is asked for again. True happiness is the slow circle that starts with love and returns to it: neighbor, parent, child, spouse, the simple things that lift, the respect that is shared, the meal that erases borders, the gratitude that keeps becoming more. Everything else is decoration. This is the beginning.
