WHERE NEVER SUN HATH SHONE

Isabel Szurlej

[Verse 1]
Darkling power mounts within the dust.
There looms a wooden form, from one trunk wrought.
Each of its faces keeps a road
As daylight wanes.

[Pre-Chorus]
The candles gutter. Bread and incense burn.
In the ember’s glow
Death unbars the gate.

[Chorus]
Draw near in mercy to the troubled house.
Reveal the secrets folded up in night.

[Verse 2]
The threshold knows the weight of every step.
To few is hidden wisdom given.
No god holds sway beyond the gate.

[Breakdown]
Cast out the vile.

[Final Chorus]
Draw near in mercy to the troubled house.
Unfold what lies buried in the night.

[Outro]
A lamp burns where never sun hath shone.
The dead stand still.
Their shadows cross the threshold.

Dark and with webs of morbidity it casts a shadow over death's gates and shudders in wait. Nicely written it speaks of another realm. Well done
