As I rise from my bed at the break of Dawn
Look in the Mirror, red Eyes and all, trying to keep my hands steady
Out comes the Cut-throat Razor, hands a shake a bit
Nervous as hell with a Towel at the ready
Make good my ablutions, get out my clothes
On with my Wrangler jeans, socks boots and Gun
Shirts a bit dirty, waistcoats the same
When you get to my age it’s no longer fun
Seventy years and five, quite a good age
Many years a lawman, risking life every in every way
How I have lasted this long, being what I was
Now I really appreciate every long passing day
Now sat on the Porch sat just rocking away
Thinking a lot of the past, hard times long ago
Gunfights a plenty when bad men came to town
Many an evening sat with head held in woe
There’s always someone who wants to speak now
About the lawless day long time past
It, s now 1903 thank God those days are gone
Memories left behind glad those times did not last
My Guns were drawn in anger at least ten years ago or more
When I was Marshall in Dodge City
Cannot remember who or what for
Now I am just thank full
That for the rest of my life
I can spend time at home
With the Kids and the Wife
I have had four wives admittedly
I traveled quite a lot
Passions occasionally
Used to get rather hot
You cannot blame a man for wanting
A pretty woman around
Sometimes had to leave town
Without making a sound
But the bad days of the old wild west
Of Gunfights and dead bodies most days
So I say thank you God
I was able to change my ways
