A Stranger to My Own Dreams

Dev Parth

I built a thousand dreams and watched them disappear into the night,
Yet every morning, I collected them and called the fragments light.

I asked the stars if reaching them would finally make me whole,
They said, "We've burned for centuries, and still we've lost our sight."

I have befriended solitude, it knows the things I never say,
It sits beside my restless thoughts and keeps my secrets out of sight.

The world keeps asking where I'll be, what I will make, who I will become,
I wish somebody asked me who I am when nothing feels quite right.

Somewhere between a distant goal and everything I leave behind,
I lost the art of standing still, of letting moments feel like life.

I write to people who don't exist, in places I have never seen,
Perhaps the heart invents its homes when nowhere feels quite right.

And if tomorrow brings the man I've spent my lifetime trying to be,
I hope he recognises the boy who kept his dreams alight.

For Dev, the greatest distance was never measured by the miles,
But by the space between the self he is and the self he holds so tight.
