Tune: St Gertrude [Series: Hymns to Saints Tunes 20]
('Onward, Christian soldiers')
Ephesians 6 v.10-18
*************
Chorus
Put on the whole armour
Of God, stand firm, sure
Strong in him, the power
Of His might each hour
So you able to stand
On rock, not on sand
Against the schemes evil
Of foe, the devil
For we wrestle here not
Against earthly lot
But against spiritual
Wickedness it all - Chorus
Therefore take whole armour
Clothe you with it sure
So that you can withstand
And done all, still stand
Stand you therefore, having
Belt of truth one thing
And having on breastplate
Of righteousness' state - Chorus
Having your feet shod too
Walking with the view
Of sharing the gospel
Good news, peace to all
And taking to you shield
Of faith, not to yield
To the evil one, defend
With shield to the end - Chorus
Quenching the fiery darts
Enemy imparts
Using shield in defence
Scattering darts hence
Taking too the helmet
Of salvation, yet
Not forget, take your sword
The Spirit, the word [of God] - Chorus
Praying e'er with all prayer
Here, there, everywhere
In the Spirit, watching
All persevering
And in supplications
For folk, all nations
Weapon of prayer using
God's kingdom to bring - Chorus
