HAPPY DIWALI

Saroja

The sky lit up with colors,

Sparklers that shined bright and beautiful,

People looked up high at the sky,

Enjoying the thrill of crackers.

Only a few could see,

Down on the Earth,

The frantically running dogs,

In fear, and out of their space.

While the sky lit up,

Their heart was split,

Making them run for shelter,

As there was none.

Closed gates of public park,

People with a fire stick at every inch,

A dog under a bench,

And another behind the bush

No space to hide,

As humans took their land,

Unable to search for a safe harbor,

As the roads burned tonight.

Scared to find food tonight,

As reaching out to garbage,

Can burn their mouth and tongue,

As tonight people celebrate

They call it festival of lights,

But more than light it's the sound,

The sound of bangs and fear,

It's that time of the year.

Notice that soul in fear,

Let us stop being the monsters,

Our happiness should not be their nightmare,

Festival means joy, love and togetherness.
