Kill me not, O brother!
For what wrong have I done to you,
Kill not these men, women and children
For they have not sinned against you.
Its true that our leaders gave orders
To invade your land
Your homes were destroyed
Your dear ones were killed
No words can console your irreparable loss.
Your anger is righteous
But is your conscience clear?
Can the crimes against you
Be washed away in a river of blood?
Can our deaths
Bring back your dear ones to life?
We too are mere mortals
Just like you
We are a hapless lot called ‘civilians’
Just like you
Who go about their daily lives
Hoping that today would be like any other day.
Bombs and bullets
Can never make a statement
They scatter flesh and blood
And take away innocent lives
Kill us not, O brother!
We do not wish to die this way.
