Pierced

Jennifer Teresa Nunes

Reaching out, fully extend
out of the sockets, the funeral I attend.
Soulless eyes with a burning glare
As I stand at the altar reciting my pray:

"My blood is pure
despite the different shades.
My touch is soft
behind the razor blades.
Your heart is scared
yet no longer a slave.
You speaks the truth
the lies decay.
Your mind is corrupt
but the feelings you won’t trade
My eyes are mirrors
though reflections may fade."

Looking around at the trembling hands,
I continue this pray the best I can:

"An evil sound so righteous to the ear
but hard to ignore,
so distance yet near.
Up the hollow stairs
to the plummeting wall
grip loosens, no restraint,
we fall.
Twist and turn
hold on to the clutch
Stimulate the pain
with a single touch."

Out in the dark, weeping huddles
thousand of tears, rolling into puddles.
I fall to my knees, gasping for air
With that last breath I finish the pray.

"All along you knew
right from the start
i was the dagger
that pierced your heart."
