Melting Snow

Huzaidi Hashim

Cancer is a pale dark word

The kind we never want to find

Yet it comes when it is time

Even if we refuse to look behind

My daughter, she’s a strong girl

I know she’ll make it through

surgery and post-op chemo

With will power, she’ll pull through!

Though tender is her age

her smiles overcome the pain

leaving everything to fate

her hope will never melt in rain

And when she becomes a doctor

She’ll let her patients know

 the cold of winter mornings

will  melt under the sun’s glow

  • Comment from author about the poem: This poem was written for my 22 year old daughter who is currently studying medicine here. She has recently been diagnosed as having Ovarian Cancer. She will be undergoing surgery next friday 6th May 2011. She is as tough as her father and if my instincts are correct, she'll survive the surgery and th Post Operation Chemotherapy ad emerge an excellent doctor!
