Mother

Huzaidi Hashim

You endured me … despite the strain …
of me inside you … for 9 months.
You braved the pain … to welcome me
… to the safety of your arms.

You kept awake … day or night …
to keep me fed … rested and cozy.
You coached me through …
the first steps of … my life’s journey.

You spoke to me … in perfect phrase
until your words … formed mine.
You read to me … the verses of Quran
every morning, noon and night!

You watched me grow … strong and firm …
in mind and soul, through rain or shine ...
to keep me vigilant and ready …
to assume my worldly role in time.

Thank you mother … for being there for me!
