Who do you see when you see me?
Do you see in me what God sees?
Perfectly created, fashioned in God’s likeness
Filled with light, spoken into being within brightness
Who do you see when you see me?
Loved, cared for and adored
God’s heartbeat, blessed assured!
Nothing missing, nothing broken
Whole, complete, I’m God’s precious token
It’s not hard to see that God loves me
Who do you see when you see me?
Enveloped in God’s favour
God’s love to infinitely savour
You can attempt to fathom why
But it would be useless to try
God loves me, it’s plain to see
Who do you see when you see me?
I and God are one
Ever since this world begun
When God sees me, God sees God self
There’s none other like me on the shelf
God looks at me, and loves what God sees
Who do you see when you see me?
I revel in God’s connection
And appreciate God’s affection
I have long life, and can’t count the days
Life is so sweet, I’m forever amazed
God’s eyes are always on me
Who do you see when you see me?
I know that God’s thoughts of you are the same
The fact that we don’t always know it is no shame
Just connect with God within you
In preference of ignoring your outer view
You will see what God sees
For the beauty that God sees in you, God also sees in me!
Now, who do you see when you see me?

- Comment from author about the poem: For over a year, the title of a poem had been floating around in my mind. However, I was waiting for words to come to enable me to write the poem. Suddenly, it dawned on me that I should start where I am. Just write the title and see what happens afterwards. Well, I wrote the title, Who Do You See When You See Me?Then the words started to show up, one at a time initially, then it started to flow. Within 10 minutes I completed the poem! So who actually inspired me to write this poem? I'd just finished listening to Dr Maya Angelou's poem, 'Phenomenal Woman', and it got me thinking that perhaps all I needed to do is simply start with what I have and take it from there. Enjoy! x
