A Scottish Summer

Forquarter

Oh to be in Bonnybridge now that spring has sprung

And winters gales with snows and hails are absolutely gone

As young green shoots peep slowly through

And birds do sweetly  sound

Down comes the rain with gales and hails to saturate the ground

Oh to be in Bonnybridge now that the spring has sprung

That freakish low with chilling blow now absolutely gone

To see the cattle grazing grass

While insects gently hum

But no their tails they quickly turn to face the storm that comes.

Oh to be in Bonnybridge now that its summer time

Concentric circles tightly packed no longer on the chart

The new mown hay will smell so sweet

As sun becomes the norm

I think I saw it yesterday before the thunderstorm.

Oh to live in Bonnybridge who'd want to go away

When seasons change to give us those most sultry summer days

The cooling breezes softly blow

And waft the ripening grain

But all I see is more and more of softly falling rain.

Why do I live in Bonnybridge and why not go away?

I'll tell you why because just once, or twice perhaps each year

The sun will shine from cloudless blue

The hills with clarity and hue

Reflect the freshness something new

Stirs spirits that so oft subdued

To rise and marvel and entice

This strange and wondrous paradise.

Yet count your blessings

Things could get much worse I hear they say

Expect more rain and chill with

GLOBAL WARMING ON ITS WAY
