Mama said
The Moon don't like to shine
after a red day.
Mama said
it's their filthy jaws
and bloody claws
that scare it astray.
Mama said it's the wolves that scare the moon away.
But Mama don't hear them cry
When the moon shines bright.
Mama's never heard how
they rejoice in its light,
praising its presence
with words
powerful
and lost to our minds.
Applaud at the dead of night.
