It's happening again,
Such unbearable pain,
And if my soul is crying
As my heart is breaking, then that's fine…
I've let so many people down,
Lost so many beautiful opportunities
I feel so failed and forlorn,
But is that really such a tragedy?
Perhaps, rather,
It’s a positive thing,
Shouldn't a true artist be suffering?
At least I'm feeling something…
It's happening again,
Such unbearable pain,
And if my soul is crying
As my heart is breaking, then that's fine…

- Comment from author about the poem: For some time now I've been prone to spells of abyssal sorrow that come, remain for a week or less, and then pass; and I wrote "And If My Soul Is Crying" directly from the heart during one such recent spell, although I no longer identify with it to any degree, and can't see myself doing so for some time as I finish writing this passage on 28 November 2015.
