Our Flags

Rachel

You tell us we're sick,

That we don't belong here.

That God is ashamed of us.

If God was ashamed of us,

Then why did he make us who we are?

No matter how many slurs you throw at us,

We'll still stand tall as a mountain

And wave our flags.

We go online to seek the love and acceptance

That our family and friends don't give to us.

What will it take for you guys to see that we are humans too?

The fact that we like our same gender or no one at all

Does not mean we are freaks, or broken.

We will rise above your hate

And break the heteronormative society we live in.

We'll be stronger than the gender roles placed before us

And continue to wave our flags.

Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender* and other Queer individuals are sick of your rejection.

We do not wish to fight

We wish to coexist with all of you peacefully

Yet you still fetishize lesbians and hate on gay men

Tell asexual people they are broken

And tell trans* and genderqueer people that their identities are fake.

Until the day when we all can breathe the same air,

And just live with each other in peace,

We will stand in protest for respect

And wave our flags.

  • Comment from author about the poem: I am sick and tired of people (mostly cisgender and straight) telling me that agender, aromantic, and asexuality is fake, or we are just "Making that up for attention." Parents should be less concerned of their child ending up being queer than they should knowing they could go to people online hat they DON'T EVEN KNOW for more love and acceptance than their own parents give them.
