HERE’S TO THE DAWN
(A toast to the New Year)
Another year has come and gone
It’s time to sing that familiar song
With novel high spirits and renewed vigor
And sparkling glasses with freshly poured liquor
A suitable toast is cued to recite:
‘Not one is without a wrong to right
May this roster of resolutions
Be the sanction to this year’s conclusion
One more start to all is given
A chance to be more ambitious and driven
A prayer for the souls who were sadly lost
To the year before who were dear to us
From the old acquaintance to the new
With the hope that each one prove to be true
Away with regrets of yesteryear
With the roll of failures caused by fears
Our survival has purchased a smooth, clean slate
To create joyful times to record and date
And for every memory of sorrow to perish
So in place are past, precious moments to cherish
And to know all defeats, losses and heartaches earned
Are, in truth, precious lessons learned
So here’s to the dawn
To the newborn sons
To the battles lost
To the battles won
To the meeting point where discrepancies cease
To the discovering of our nations’ peace
To the new golden age and future revolutions
To a better understanding and less confusion
To the hope of mankind and His everlasting grace
To the finding of one’s purpose and each their own place
Lift your glasses with freshly poured liquor
With novel high spirits and renewed vigor
Join in singing that traditional song
For another year has come and gone!’
