I need no affirmation from a mind of lesser wit,
Too many storms I've conquered when others might have quit.
If you don't understand what I'm about,
Don't expect an explanation just to ease your doubt.
What I choose to think and how I choose to act,
Are a product of the life I've lead, I believe that for a fact.
Should you take my strength for weakness, that is your mistake,
It takes more strength for kindness and it's no easy piece of cake.
If I let you win the argument, it's not because you're right.
I'd rather be at peace with others than constantly in a fight.
They say lions don't give a damn for opinions of the sheep,
But I am here to tell you that a lion's feelings truly do run deep.
I may not choose to tell you just how I really feel,
because other's feelings matter too and I have to keep it real.
Just know that if you're in my life it's because I really want you,
And when you notice there's no crowd around me you'll know you're one of few.
I'm not always here to make you happy, sometimes I make you sad,
But know I'm always here for you, even when you're mad.
You can blame me for the bad things, take credit for the good,
I'm not here for Brownie points, wouldn't count them if I could
I'm here to care for someone who is greater than my own,
It's not a decision I planned to make but one that I was shown.
So I ask for no reward or any pat upon my back,
And if the way I conduct myself would seem to you to lack,
Just know that your opinion isn't anything that I need,
Your love and warmth and friendship is that from which I feed.
