Mt. Spurr

Summersounds68

(On August 18, 1992 at approximately

4:00 P.M., Mt. Spurr, a volcano 78 miles west

of Anchorage, Alaska erupted and spewed

ash, darkening her skies for several days.)

On August 18, '92, Mt. Spurr

with pent up rage blew and blew,

she darkened the skies with her

fiery tongue, penetrating every

cloud till there was no sun;

nightfall came early way before its time,

joining the winds of the devil

who danced over the surprised city,

engulfing it with sulfur, leaving no pity.

By morning the clouds of hades hung around,

covering everything with ash,

including the ground,

residents wore masks looking like alien

creatures from Grade 'B' science fiction

features.

The City of Anchorage will never

be the same as all recall the black madness

of Mt. Spurr, the ferocious volcano

which no longer is tame.
