Attitude Adjustment

iceman43

Attitude adjustment is what takes place prior to a social gathering.

Weddings, dinners, gatherings when some of the guest maybe unknown.

It consist of partaking of some sort of adult beverage. It is meant to take the edge off.

To relax you. Make you comfortable while mingling with the other guests.

All goes well as long as everybody else is also adjusting their attitude.

Things get a little uncomfortable if someone gets over adjusted.

Therein lies the rub. The one that has over adjusted thinks all is going well.

In reality it is not going well at all. Suddenly there are fewer people taking part in the conversation.

They slowly fade away and realign themselves with someone less adjusted.

Eventually over adjusted will be standing alone, looking for someone to talk to.

whoever he tries to approach moves quickly in the opposite direction.

Is it because he has developed a thick tongue, slur a word now and then,

become repetitive in the subject matter, sway a little while standing in one place.

What usually happens is someone who knows this individual will approach and suggest

maybe a cup of coffee is in order. "A cup of coffee, if I wanted coffee I would have gone to Starbucks".

This is said with a smile, don't want to come off as being obnoxious.

It finally dawns on over adjusted he may have taken to much of the edge off,

is more relaxed than intended, comfortable mingling with people is no longer

part of the equation. It is time to exit stage left, get out of Dodge before they

become the highlight or lowlight of the evening.

This wasn't supposed to happen. Just drink enough to get an acceptable buzz

like the other guest. But no, just one more gets you every time. How can someone

just stop and have no more? It is a foreign concept to the one who over adjusted.

Things will be different next time. Just sip the adult beverage. Have no more than

two drinks and everything will be fine. Yeah, right, for sure that is going to happen.
