We are trapped within our living room
There’s banging at the door
I turn around to look at you
You’re crying on the floor
I push the sofa and the cabinet
Against their only entry
I turn around and run to you
I will forever be your sentry
Sitting beside you I hold your face
Staring deep into your eyes
A tear of terror runs down your cheek
You are certain of our demise
I run into the kitchen
To find a sharpened knife
Put the handle tightly in your hand
“You must fight with all your life”
I grab myself a broom
And snap the handle in two
The broken point is razor sharp
This should take down a few
The door is getting weaker now
And there I see you standing
You look as if you’re ready to fight
Your attack you must be planning
I stand beside you weapon in hand
My heart absolutely pounding
How did things get so bad?
The rate of infection was astounding
The front doors locks and hinges
Are smashed beyond repair
I can see the undead zombie horde
And the howling noise of their despair
I turn around and look at you
We look into each other’s eyes
I say “I love you baby,
And I’ll see you on the other side”
The zombies break into the room
Must be six or seven
We stand there ready to fight these beasts
I wonder if there’s a heaven
The closet takes a lunge at you
You dodge to its side
And take that shiny kitchen knife
And ram it straight into its eye
The undead zombie monster
Slumps down onto its knee
You quickly pull the knife from face
Survival is all we see
The second comes straight at me
But like a Spartan with a spear
Stab my weapon straight through its head
But then I’m overcome with fear
My sharp broken broom handle
Is stuck within its brain
I kick the monster to the floor
This one is definitely slain
Two more zombies have grabbed you now
Bites a chunk out of your arm
Blood starts spraying everywhere
I promised you no harm
I run to you, pick up the knife
And stab one in the head
The other I push against the wall
My entire body filled with dread
With this monster pinned against the wall
I ram the knife into its face
Skull caves in, brains on the floor
I send you to your resting place
One comes up behind me
And bites into my shoulder
I scream an agonising cry
I thought I’d die much older
I manage to break free
From the monsters infecting bite
I swing around, slice off its head
Until the end I must fight
The final zombie is wounded and slow
So I trip it to the floor
I raise my boot above its head
And stamp down more and more
For now the rooms gone quiet
Dripping blood runs down the wall
I’m overcome with dizziness
I stumble then I fall
I turn my face to yours
Your face is slowly changing
Those beautiful bright blue eyes
The life in them is fading
We both sit there huddled
In each other’s warm embrace
Fever getting hotter now
My heart picks up its pace
I ask how this should end
Do we turn or do we die?
Your gaze is fixed upon the floor
But your face.....it doesn’t lie
You turn and look out the window
And smile at the birds
Then you turn back to me
And quietly mutter these words
“If turning into an undead monster
Means I can still walk with you
Then in my heart of hearts I think I know
That this is what we’ll do”
I look at you and I agree
I cannot bear to part
We slowly drift into unconsciousness
Till death do us start
My eyes, they slowly open
I see you standing upright
I try and get onto my feet
My skin, it feels so tight
We stand there slumped together
Groaning, saliva dripping
But then I feel something
My finger you are gripping
We don’t say a single word
I’m certain we cannot
We don’t even look at each other
My body is no longer hot
We begin to run from the flat
The hunger it is painful
Did we make the right decision?
Will this life be gainful?
Running through bloodstained corridors
Jumping corpses on the stairs
Hear screaming all around us
I wonder if she cares
The screams are getting louder
We run into a room
Two girls sit in the corner
This will surely be their tomb
We both lunge for the same girl
The other darts out of sight
Then we hear an agonising cry
Another zombies infecting bite
As we both sink our teeth
Into this living tasty tissue
Her blood covers the floor
But then there is an issue
The more I eat the more I want
The rage is ever growing
We rip her arms from her body
There are no signs of slowing
As the girl goes still and quiet
We delve into her chest
Devouring her heart and lungs
But then you take a rest
For the first time since we changed
You actually look at me
Face dripping with blood
A faint smile do I see?
I do not feel for you, not yet
But I feel some kind of connection
Can we bloodthirsty monsters
Ever feel affection?
As we pull organs from the corpse
Flesh hanging from our teeth
I can hear the shouts of the living
They are fighting somewhere beneath
We leave the girl, sprint down the stairs
Crashing into benches and plant pots
We stumble but regain our feet
And then we hear the gunshots
We follow the trail of zombies
That scatter the bloody floor
Most of which are missing their heads
But human flesh......I need more
As we turn into the room
That is making all the noise
A man stands there with a shotgun
Protecting his wife and boys
Before we storm this family of four
And rip them limb from limb
I remember when it was us fighting
And how we died, it was so grim
But the hunger is overwhelming
The anger won’t let go
SO we charge towards the living
I have no choice, I can’t say no
You run round to the left
And I run round to the right
We close in on these pieces of meat
I wonder how much they’ll fight
As we near our intended targets
I trip and then I fall
My face smashes into the ground
Blood sprays against the wall
As I get up, upon one knee
I see you’ve reached the man
He cocks his gun and pulls the trigger
This was not part of my plan
Your head splatters into a million pieces
Your lifeless body falls to the floor
A new emotion has me now
I hunger for blood no more
I sit there resting upon one knee
My face bloodied but blank
The man slowly approaches me
Towering me like a tank
He points the gun towards my head
I do not move an inch
Then he puts the barrel against my face
But still, I do not flinch
All I do is stare at her
Remembering who she used to be
This stranger took her away from me
Rage is all I see
I leap from my position
Try to tear off the mans face
But the man he is too quick
And sends me to my resting place
So now we lay there, on the floor
Our bodies will never start
Laying there for eternity
Till death, do we part
