Sweet Surrender

StuckInSweetSurrender

When you think you found the one,

The girl to be your only,

Your search is finally done,

Life will never again be lonely.

But never close your eyes,

Never turn your back.

Don't forget the power of lies,

Strong enough to make you crack.

As you stay awake to hear her heart beat,

A sound you treasure so sweet,

A sound that holds together your seams.

She has already drifted away into her dreams.

Her dreams show no sign of you.

She has already played you out.

You're no longer a future view,

No longer her chosen route.

So you lay and listen as your own demise unfolds,

You have no clue you've lost control.

Unaware of the devastation the morning holds.

Grasp this moment forever.

A moment of perfect pleasure.

Don’t let go whatsoever.

Give in to this sweet surrender.

  • Comment from author about the poem: As you can probably tell, I am obsessed with the phrase "sweet surrender". Wrote this one a year or two back. Still want to work on a longer, better poem using the phrase with a stronger message. It is such a beautiful, but dark phrase. A vulnerability so pure to someone you love that you actually like it. You love the way it feels.
