My Wall

StuckInSweetSurrender

As I lay here alone and cold,

I reach for someone to hold.

Laying here lost in thought,

Reaching for something that was not.

You broke down my wall,

You tore my heart open,

You said you'd catch me when I fall,

But instead you left me broken.

It's hard to let anyone in,

Even harder to let anyone go.

Once behind my wall free of sin,

Forever is all I know.

Left all beaten and battered,

My wall appears to be shattered.

Vulnerable to every bullet headed my way,

Easier and easier to betray.

But once my mind feels strong,

My emotions will move along.

The once impenetrable wall will be reformed,

My inner security will be rearmed.

It's sad to say I cared too much,

Sad to say I'd still melt to her touch.

Another period of pain will pass,

I'll come to drink from the words of another soul's glass.

But the more my wall comes crashing down,

The stronger it'll be the next time around.

A great piece. The last verse encapsulates the message very, very nicely: "I'll come to drink from the words of another soul's glass. But the more my wall comes crashing down, The stronger it'll be the next time around."

The strength that comes from getting up after a fall and another eventually prevents all falls - I could not agree more.

I look forward to reading more of your work.

Thank you! I'm looking to put more of my older work up soon and hopefully have my profile kind of show my progression as a poet!
