Original Colors

Izzi Lynn

Our original colors have faded
Our opinions have changed
People have drawn all over us
Backstabbers have chipped away pieces of what we used to be
Teachers have tried to build us back up
Parents have torn it all back down
Trips have colored our experiences
Age has lent wisdom to our actions
Betrayals have hardened our hearts
And new friendships have softened them

  • Comment from author about the poem: This poem actually means a lot to me. I was texting my friend and we were talking about how we had changed so much as we'd gotten older, and I just started writing this. I never meant for it to become a poem, and it was just a spur of the moment text to my friend about how we'd all changed. Funny how these things work.
