The Definition of Pain

The Poet

The true definition of pain, is losing the one person you can’t live without.
You lose the one true person you care about.
The one person that gets rid of the pain.
The one person that keeps you sane.
The one human being that makes your life worth living.
That one person who saved your life and kept you breathing.
You remember that night, and you remember her there.
You remember this is where it ends, it stops right here.
You had it in your hand, but she had you on her mind.
She sent out a shout and became too kind.
I thanked her and knew she would be there for me.
After that, she was all I could see.
Then my opposite went after her.
I stood up for her and defended her.
I took flak and became even more damaged.
But she stuck with me, she’s way more than I could have imagined.
She was there for me, but we started to grow apart.
As time went on, I realized I loved her with all my heart.
Then I learned she was moving away.
There was nothing I could do to make her stay.
I never got to say a true goodbye.
But nothing could make up for all the tears I cried.
I was busy and I had to go.
She left a handprint on my heart, that I know.
I will live on and grow.
But now I now.
The definition of pain.
