Favoritism Towards the "Bad"

The Poet

I’m going to start this poem off by telling you a story.

I want you to know the backstory so you can see.

Imagine it’s a cold, dreary, rainy day.

Buckets of rain coming down, falling the wrong way.

Me sitting in Spanish, waiting for class to start when all of a sudden a girl comes in soaking wet; she didn’t have an umbrella which wasn’t very smart.

She’s soaked from head to toe and shivering from the cold.

“It wasn’t going to rain till later,” or at least that’s what she was told.

I got up, walked over to her, and gave her my jacket off my back.

I let her keep it for the rest of the day and didn’t get it back.

I told my mom what had happened and she started to scold.

She said “Nick, why do you have to be so bold?”

I told her that it was the right thing to do.

I had to get the jacket back that I knew.

The point of this story is to ask one simple question.

A question that is beyond even my comprehension.

Why am I on the bottom for doing the right thing?

Why am I being yelled at for being a human being.

I’ve been taught and raised to be a good man.

But being scolded for being a good person wasn’t part of the plan.

If I am good man and I do the right thing, why am I on the bottom?

The “bad guys,” are supposed to be on the bottom, but I’m not them.

Maybe the problem isn’t me.

Maybe the problem is the type of society we don’t see.

We were raised as best to our parents ability.

But maybe we are not being the best people we can be.

Very few people have the excuse of “blame my parents on how I was raised.”

Even with that excuse, I’m still amazed.

We can’t blame someone else when the problem deals with us.

This is our future and our generation nevertheless.

Do you really want the next generation to be how to bully and beat up?

Or actually figure out their age and grow-up.

We need to learn this for this generation now.

Stop bullying and putting other people down.

Change the system to where the good kids aren’t on the bottom anymore.

Because I know from experience, it’s not fun, and those kids deserve so much more.
