A giant among men has finally been laid to rest
Father time remains undefeated, but Ali is still the best
He planned out his funeral. Wanted all his fans to attend
Friends and enemies alike. Best time for fences to mend
Thousands came to see Ali off. Couldn't believe that he was felled
Fought the good fight on earth, but Heaven will answer the next bell
He'll be buried where the legend started. Hometown Louisville
Dignitaries flew in from everywhere. A great testament to his will
"The Greatest" was not always loved as we're told by history
His brave stance helped end a bad war we chose to fight overseas
Not everyone appreciated his lip. Didn't always care for his talk
But no one questioned his steely resolve, or the way he never balked
He had some tough fights and Liston seemed an impossible match
We learned that impossible is nothing. Everything is within our grasp
Gave us a great moment in Atlanta. Lit the huge Olympic cauldron
A signature moment of the '96 games. That memory hasn't fallen
Next time you see a young kid sweating. Putting work into the gym
Tell him about "The Greatest." And how we won't see another like him

Hi thanks for your comments on mine it's good to get something back ,I like this one about Ali have seen a few that ignore that he could be controversial ,your didn't ,it also said that he was an honest man.showed his good and maybe not so favourable ,but you can't be all to everyone ,but he was a true-stand out fella one in a trillion and I got that through your words ,my hat is of to you .
Thanks so much for your comments Isi! People forget or are too young to know how hated Ali was at one time. His glass is more than half full and public opinion changed over time, but I think it's important that we look at the total Ali - warts and all. Critically, but fairly. Thanks again. Keep writing. Stay in touch!
