The Senate took a vote and gave the thumbs down on gun control proposals
GOP is still the NRA's bitch. Sent this effort straight down the garbage disposal
The vote wasn't all for naught. It allowed the parties to stake out political turf
We're in a big election cycle. Candidates take sides and show what they're worth
Vote fell along partisan lines. Neither side wants to take a big bruising
Jobs are hanging in the balance. That comes in ahead of the Orlando shooting
Debate over guns is back on. Fight rages on, arguments re-ignited
Gay community caught in the middle. Praying to God this wrong will be righted
Both sides presented proposals. Presumably to tighten certain restrictions
Didn't find much common ground. Few compromises, mostly contradictions
The proposals weren't expected to get past the Senate, but what do we know?
Variations of them have been shot down, even after the tragedy in San Bernadino
Monday's vote was no major surprise. It fit the same old Republican pattern
They gave in to the NRA's demands. Left the affected families in tatters
Seems as if we are spinning our wheels. We are constantly grasping at straws
Firearm enthusiasts won't budge an inch, despite polls that support stricter gun laws
Gun supporters won't compromise. Pointing the finger of blame somewhere else
They make mention of emotional illness, but funding gets cut for mental health
But what of the terror watch list? Should be easy with their hate of Islam
Conservs refuse to restrict the list. Guess they want terrorists to purchase guns
You'd think they'd be embarrassed. But the Grand Old Party has minimal shame
They only care that the NRA is happy, and they get to remain in the game

- Comment from author about the poem: A gun control measure was voted down in the Senate in the wake of another mass shooting. Majority of Americans favor tighter gun controls but the powerful NRA lobby bullied the legislature into seeing things their way.

Thank you so much for this,my friend.
I was wondering do Americans carry their guns when they go on holiday to Europe?
Do they feel safe in Europe and in danger while at their homeland?!
Thanks Lysis! I'm not sure what Americans do when in Europe, but I don't think guns are allowed on planes. And in the U.S. most Americans don't carry guns around with them at all. Most of the guns are actually owned by a relatively small (and very vocal) percent of the population.
