Democrats staged House Sit-In. All just to highlight #GunSense
Got sick and tired of being stonewalled. Conservatives took offense
John Lewis led this bold effort. He was the major lynch pin
The Georgia rep marched in Selma. He really knows how to win
The protestors broke into song. The familiar "We Shall Overcome"
Invoked memories of 60's movement. Helped them to remain as one
NRA owns GOP heart and soul. Their members want it both ways
They'd love to block bills forever. Do nothing and still get paid
The premise is rather quite simple. The idea is #NoFlyNoBuy
But this time you can't pass the buck, sirs. No, you don't get to hide
Our reps occupied the House floor. Last night and on into the day
Turn off lights and air conditioning. But you'll vote on this without delay
Speaker Ryan tried to break it up. Called a vote on an unrelated matter
Tried to gavel the chamber to order. Dems shouted him down with a clatter
Ryan's ploy didn't work. House members held up signs with victim's names
They remained in the House well shouting. Loud chants of "Shame shame shame"
Democrats vowed to work thru the evening. The chamber erupted in cheers
Repubs were careful to not look uncaring. Bad publicity is their darkest fear
Fourteen plus hours into the game. The GOP tried to adjourn this hot mess
They refused to vote on what really matters. They have miserably failed the test

- Comment from author about the poem: U.S. House Representatives stages a Sit-In on the floor of the House in an attempt to force a vote on gun control. The Republicans predictably refused to accommodate them and did not allow the vote to take place.
