Eyes

elphaba993

She smiles

And it's the prettiest damn smile.

She laughs

And you can't help but laugh with her.

Her makeup is flawless,

Her clothing pristine.

When you talk

She listens as though you are the only person

In the world.

You can't help loving her.

But

Don't look in her eyes

Those eyes

Huge and innocent

Hold all the pain she keeps hidden away

The lies and secrets that threaten to drown her

The betrayals and the shame she can't escape from.

She holds the weight of everyone's disappointment

In her

And you can see it all

In those

Big

Beautiful

Empty

Eyes

I highly recommend that you read Edgar Allan Poe's short story, "Ligeia."

When I read it, I understood it-- and I have a feeling that you would, too.

      I will definitely read it!

Where can I find those eyes to look at them. Nicely written poem.
