Gone Forever

Felicityjones

As I saw you in your last moments

I felt like it was my last moments

You slowly drifted away

Gone, forever

I didn't know how I could live

How I could cope and survive

I've lost a family member today

I lost my best friend

All I have are memories

Those times where you would comfort me

Snuggle beside me as I pet you

Those are gone now

All I wish is peace with you

I don't know where you gone to

It's terrifying and traumatic

The thought of never seeing you again

Thinking about all the damage you endured

Not knowing

Not knowing if you were scared too

As you took your last breath

As your heart beated it's final beat

I crumbled inside

I let my tears run free

  • Comment from author about the poem: This is a poem about my childhood cat that I had to get put down due to bladder complications. They euthanized him in my arms so this shows the emotions I felt during his final moments.

Sweet and loving. There must have been a strong bond/connection. This speaks to my heart well done

My wife teases me when I attribute human emotions to our pets.
