Day One

StuckInSweetSurrender

You come into this world and the first thing you learn: this is your mom, this is your dad. They love you, they teach you how to love, after you're a result of what society considers "bad".
Love is our first lesson. Who to love, how to love, and when to show affection.
So as you grow, you come to fall more and more in love with different people. Almost as if you're in the First Lesson: The Sequel.
You come to see her smile, his eyes, her laugh with a new sight. Embracing love in a totally unconditional, naive light.
Soon enough the world changes the subject to her breasts, his abs, her butt, his arms. What society had deemed beautiful when young becomes something that causes harm.

But remember day one.

Remember that love is what one should chase in a world so lost. Earning money and buying luxury, but at what cost.
If you forget day one, you forget why we're here on this earth. The ultimate goal of life is something taught at the very moment of birth.

So as you continue your journey into this roller coaster of life. Chasing down money, success, and trying to get named husband and wife.
The only thing I can say to you as a final piece of advice. Don't sacrifice who you are and what you've learned no matter the price.

And if nothing at all, remember day one.

  • Comment from author about the poem: This is not my usual style of poetry, but I took a shot at it. Something I've had to remind myself of everyday lately, just remember Day One.
