Distance

WALBERTO DIAZ

I have the carnal desire to betray your memory,

I want to give myself to another body

to prove that I’m capable of living without you.

I want to kiss other fingers to forget about yours,

your flavor skin fingertips.

To offer myself almost in my reduced totality to another being.

I want another soul to attest to your absence,

your lost love,

your distance.

I want other eyes to explore my body

and I want them, among many others,

to remind me that I’m still alive.

I need to assure myself that I’m still liquid inside,

that I’m a hurricane,

that I’m an earthquake

and that I’m a handful of dust

that cascades apart with a touch.

In other arms, I will try to forget those nights…
