The Street and the Flower

By: Alex Enyart

Love is a two-way street

Love is a flower

Love is everything

But I ask you of the street

What happens when that two-way street splits?

Or the flower

What happens when the flower is not watered?

What happens when there is no more cause for celebration?

What then?

Do we stop following the road at the point of dissection?

Do we continue to water the flower after its point of death?

Without love,

Life seems pointless

Roads seem endless

Nights seem restless

Trying seems useless.

So what then?

Shall we just end it all,

Stop following the streets,

Stop sleeping at night,

Stop trying at life?

No

No, no, no,

Just because one street splits to two doesn’t mean you stop following it,

Just because one flower dies, that doesn’t mean you can’t plant a new one,

And who knows,

Maybe one day that street will connect with another and lead to a place much better than this,

Maybe that flower will bloom into an unexpected beauty,

And who knows,

Maybe that street was just a metaphor for love

Maybe that flower was just a metaphor for love

For love is everything

And just because a street splits to two

Or a flower dies

That doesn’t mean you stop loving

Just follow the street you are on

Plant new flowers

And maybe, just maybe,

You will find love in something new
