Residue

lucyring

I used to be able to feel your hand around my neck.

It feels like a whisper now.

I felt your breath in my ear,

Hot and urgent.

It's cold now.

Your hand used to clasp mine,

As though you needed me.

I can't feel it now.

When you grabbed my thigh until it hurt,

Power or ecstasy.

It's bruised now.

Our ankles, tangled as we slept,

As though it had to be that way.

They're bare now.

The words that you said to me,

As though they were meant for only me.

They're just a sigh now.

When I closed my eyes, your face was there.

My pillow smelled of you.

Your presence lingered in this house for so long.

You're gone now.

Nicely done. I can sense the longing to return.
