Ocean Angel

Sarah Abbott

I fear where I am going,

the pressure is choking

my voice.

Mysteries suspend my comfort,

as I’m sinking quickly,

in a big, dark, blue world.

My body floats

down in an abyss

without air for my two lungs.

White feathers don’t save me,

but an angel is there.

Though she will not get me out,

and in I remain,

I hear her voice sparkle

like the sun on the surface-

“Sinking in darkness is scary,

but trust me,

light is waiting for you.”

Hope floods my body,

filling my heart,

helping me breathe.

Who knew light could exist

even under the unseen.

  • Comment from author about the poem: This poem was inspired by one of my dearest friends. She is very spiritual, and she is in love with the ocean. She told me that there\\\'s an Angle of the ocean that she feels very connected to, so when I looked up the Angel of the ocean, I discovered a beautiful prayer. A quote from the prayer that ignited my poem is \\\"I desire to go deeper. Please, take me there and I will listen\\\". Amazingly, after I wrote this poem, my Mom showed me a song called \\\"Oceans\\\" by Hillsong United, and it fits the theme of my poem almost too perfectly. It\\\'s a lovely song with great lyrics- I invite you to watch the lyric video. The picture of the ocean was taken in Narragansett, RI, and has undergone edits to achieve a dark feeling.
