It was dark and stormy
that night my car broke down
I was out in the middle of nowhere
there was no one else around
It was raining cats and dogs
the rain was pouring down
As the water rushed by the car
I thought that I might drown
the thunder rolled and rumbled
then the lightning cracked the air
That was when I first saw it
sitting way up there
A spooky old house up on the hill
its splendor long since gone
I made my way up the hill
seeking shelter from the storm
I made it to the gothic gates
that fenced the old house in
I pushed the gate wide open
on its creaky hinge
I walked the path that led me
To the massive ornate doors
I raised the gargoyle knocker
And rapped upon the door
Oh my heart was full of sorrow
My soul ached with sacred pain
slowly the door fell open
And something drew me in
I was standing in the entry hall
The light was low and dim
The lighting crashed just briefly
Brightening the gloom
And that was when I saw her
In the living room
She was sitting by the fireplace
In an old Victorian chair
When she turned to face me
I felt the need to scream
And then these tricksters turned the lights on
And shouted “Happy Halloween”
