I fear this day that comes upon me,
Weighted down with life's long load.
A hope that some can be expelled,
But fear more will lengthen the road.
The curtains opened,sun streams in,
A warmth that heats my very soul.
This day starts well, remove this hell,
that resides within me these years.
Throw open the prison's exit door,
All at once outside comes upon me.
Every noise seems as new as birth,
As if just at this moment learned.
Could this new day be a first of many,
So emotional I am with this thought.

- Comment from author about the poem: I suffered from depression and self doubt for a number of years. It got so bad I wouldn't leave the house. Things that happened in My childhood l couldn't keep putting a lid on them... The birth of my grand children was the catalyst to get me going...
