A Walk In The Woods

notapoet

The day was warm and humid as we start down the trail towards our day of adventure. Not quite prepared or with the proper attire (You in Flip-flops and me in Sandals) for the impromptu hike but not really caring, only happy to be outdoors and enjoying the day together as we continue on down the trail.

Fragrant smells of wild flowers and moist earth fill the air. As we inhale those wonderful scents, fond memories from my childhood of laughing and playing without a care drifted through my mind like the soft summer breeze that now caresses our face.

Walking slowly as not to miss a single item of all the beauty spread out before us, we stop to admire the brilliant white flowers from a small patch of cacti just off the trail. As we bend down for a closer look we are amazed to discover hiding inside of one of the flowers a small group of Beatles who are engaged in what seems to be a group mating ritual.

As we turn away both a little embarrassed and amused by our discovery we continue on, at this moment I catch a glimpse of her beautiful face, my head and my heart are suddenly filled with the memory of out last night together, wrapped in each others arms passionately engaged in our own joyous and intimate ritual. I smile at this moment and take her hand in mine as we continue our walk lazily down the trail towards the sparkling stream.

At last we reach the calmly flowing steam and search for a shallow and not too treacherous area to cross. I am Impressed at the agility and gracefulness of my beautiful companion as we make our way across without incident. Being first timers to this particular location and novice hikers at best, it was almost inevitable that we take the wrong trail leading ourselves straight into a path that ultimately led to nowhere.

Laughing and teasing one another we find our way back to the main trail and continue our adventure. Up a steep and rocky incline we go as we continue on the main path, as we ascend the hillside I am happily “bringing up the rear” as the saying goes, and admiring the view of her rear and the sleek and athletic shape of her body as she “effortlessly” leads us up to the top of the hill.

We pause for a moment at the top of the hill to catch our breath and wipe the now generous amount of sweat from our faces as we both take in the amazing view around us before attempting the rest of our hike back down the hill across the stream and ultimately back to where we parked the car.

Along the trail on the return leg of our journey beside the sparkling stream, we stop in the shade of a mighty oak that reminds me of our tree in the park Again I steal a glance at her beautiful glistening face. I take her in my arms and softly kiss her tender lips, wipe a bead of sweat from her brow and thank the powers that be for sending such a wonderful creature into my life and allowing me to share this perfect day with her as we take a walk in the woods…….
