It puts me in pain to say
I’m okay
when everything hurts
and things get worse
because another lie goes through my teeth
if I even dare speak.
Who knows what I might say?
It may be the day
I break and tell you the secrets I’ve kept
like how much I’ve wept
as I type with tears in my eyes
“I’m fine.”
